What is a Zebu?
A Zebu is a cow with upswept horns and a proud
hump; an ancient breed from India; precursors of
the modern day Brahman cattle. Zebus are Bos
Indicus cattle. Unlike their European cousins,
Zebu have sweat glands and love the heat!
What are Miniature Zebu?
Mini Zebus are "true" miniatures, not just smaller
"real" cows. They developed in India over
thousands of years, and were brought to the United
States as oddities for zoos and wildlife parks. The
bulls are under 42" and the cows less than 40" tall.
What are the Uses of the Mini Zebu?
Dry Creek Farm Miniature Zebus
On our five acre Texas spread, we raise a very small number of show quality zebus
which are AMZA and IMZA registered. Our cows and bulls are conformationally
correct, with wonderful breed character and calm temperaments. We like to look out
the window and see uniquely colored tiny cattle, and that is our breeding goal.
Sometimes we even sell one!
DRY CREEK FARM
Zebus are used as manageable show cattle for children, junior rodeo bucking stock,
milkers for small homesteads, and breeding stock for petting zoos or estates. We
enjoy the opportunity to perpetuate, and even improve upon, such a rare and exotic
breed of cattle. But mostly we love them as low maintenance livestock pets!
